Saturday we officially began working with
New Community Church.
They took us to their ministry site in the Mahatthai slums where we had a chance to hang out with the children and teach them some English.
New Community has been going to Mahatthai for about a year now, and although the kids have learned a little English, the ministry is really about loving the kids.
To the left, you can see one of the boys hanging onto the edge of the building where we taught.
You can see behind him the murky green water that surrounds the building.
Their entire neighborhood is build atop a polluted marsh.
Most of the homes are held up by termite ridden pillars that can hardly support the load they bear.
One of the big hopes that New Community has for the kids of Mahatthai is that they would cling to the hope offered by the gospel. This Sunday, we had over 20 of them come to the worship service, and they were genuinely excited to be there. Of course, the little ones weren't exactly focused during the message and prayer times, but we took them upstairs during the service and taught them a short bible lesson and played games with them.
