Snack food

Every time I go overseas, I discover new foods that I unexpectedly enjoy. So far, my favorite snack in Thailand is "Fisho Fish Snack." Although, I must admit that it is difficult to say diffinitively that Fisho is superior to Taro Fish snack. What exactly is Fish snack? We may never know. What I have gathered from the numbers and scattered english words on the packaging is that fish snack is made of some type of processed shredded fish skin with flour or starch to harden it. It comes in barbecue, soy, spicy, and original flavors. Last night I went out on a limb and purchased fish snack "twists" which appeared to be shorter but thicker fish strips. Turns out they were actually squid strips, a little spicier and about twice as fishy.

Speaking of Fisho's, the other night Melissa and I were planning on watching a DVD, but we wanted something to snack on. Naturally, I decided to go out for some popcorn and fish snacks. On my way across the street though, I got a little side tracked...by a baby elephant. I know I wrote that blog about elephants in the street, but that crisis was averted. Up until this point I had not seen any elephants, and I especially didn't expect to see one sauntering though the little road by my apartment. After staring with my jaw on the ground for a few seconds, I ran back to the apartment to grab my veterinarian who I was sure would not want to miss this opportunity. Here is what transpired:

L: "Melissa, you've gotta come see this, there is a baby elephant in the street"
M:"What?!? I don't believe you."
L: "I'm serious, why would I make this up?"
M:"I don't know, you just do stuff like that. What is really going on?"
L: "There is an elephant outside. I saw it by the 7 Eleven. It moves pretty fast, and if you don't hurry we are going to miss it."
M: "I don't know what you're trying to pull, but this better be good."

Clearly, we need to work on our trust level.

Eventually we got out there, and after searching for a few blocks we found him (or her. I didn't check). Two Thai guys were walking with him selling sugar cane for 20 baht a bag and letting people feed the elephant. I had never realized this, but elephants have very creepy eyes. I felt like he wanted to kill me or something, but maybe that's just what happens when you walk around all day eating raw sugar. Melissa thought the elephant was pretty cool though. She fed him, got elephant snot all over her hands, and still walked away happy.

In other news, I am preaching this Sunday on taming the tongue. I looked at several texts for my sermon, but I have decided on the traditional choice, James 3. Harsh words about power of the tongue in there. To see what I am talking about try this excercise: Complete this sentence: "The tongue is..." now go look at James 3:6 for the biblical perspective.
